Next stage of A50 cycle route work takes place

THE second phase of the project to create new cycle ways along the route of the A50 has begun. Work is taking place for four weeks along Groby Road, from the BP garage exit point to Brading Road, from October 24 to November 20, 2016, during which time there will be one lane closed at off-peak times from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
Improvements include installing new pavement edgings and new slabs, as well as removing old railings, replacing some kerbs and moving two bus shelters. The works are part of the wider North West Leicester Major Transport Scheme, to improve roads and junctions along the A50 corridor, between the A46 Western Bypass and the A563 outer ring road.
The project has already seen improvements to three junctions and two roundabouts, and once completed will ensure the road network linking the north west of the county to the city will be better equipped to handle the predicted increase in traffic from planned developments in this area over the next 10 to 20 years.
The project is being run jointly between Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council, with the vast majority of the funding being provided from Central Government through the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) Local Growth Fund.
