THE STORY of Leicester City’s fairytale season will be told in a major exhibition at Leicester’s New Walk Museum & Art Gallery this summer.
Opening on Saturday 4 June, the display will celebrate the Foxes’ incredible journey, from relegation favourites in March 2015 to Premier League champions in 2016. Using video footage, photographs and memorabilia from an extraordinary season, ‘Fearless Foxes’ will aim to capture the excitement of the 2015-16 campaign – and the impact that the club’s unexpected success has had on the city and its people.
“This exhibition is our contribution to an amazing moment in the city’s history,” said collections, interpretation and learning manager Matthew Constantine. As well as using stunning photographs and other media content to retell the story of the club’s meteoric rise from the bottom of the table to Premier League champions, we have tried to reflect upon why this sporting story has had such an impact around the world.
“Creating this exhibition meant a late change to our summer programme, but it was something too important to ignore. Turning it around so quickly has only been possible thanks to a huge team effort and the generous support of Leicester City Football Club, BBC Radio Leicester, the Leicester Mercury, ITV Central and many more.” As part of the exhibition, fans will be encouraged to record their emotions and reactions to Leicester City’s extraordinary season and add these personal stories to the growing display.
City Mayor Peter Soulsby said: “The 2015-16 season is one that will be remembered, and talked about, for generations – and Leicester City’s success has made the people of Leicester very, very proud indeed. “This exhibition will give fans an opportunity to share those feelings of pride with other visitors – and allow all of us to reflect on what has been an extraordinary season.”
‘Fearless Foxes’ will open at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery at 11am on Saturday 4 June. A number of special family events are planned for the opening day (Saturday 4 June), with football activities taking place outside the museum – in Museum Square – and Filbert Fox due to make a special appearance at around 11am.
The free exhibition will be in the main temporary exhibition gallery on the first floor until September. ‘Fearless Foxes’ is a partnership between Leicester City Council, Leicester City Football Club, BBC Radio Leicester and the Leicester Mercury. New Walk Museum is open seven days a week. Usual opening hours are 10am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. Please note that the museum will open at 11am, an hour later than usual, on Saturday 4 June.
